In early medieval days around 269 AD a young priest by the name of Valentine was martyred for secretly marrying young men during the time of Roman Emperor Claudius II. The Emperor had ordered all young men stay single so they could fight in his army. In addition to the emperor hearing the news of the young priest’s secret ceremonies, Valentine had also fallen in love with the emperor’s daughter. On the night of his execution he wrote her one last farewell addressed, “From your Valentine”.
